Acer Reveals Project DualPlay Mini Concept Gaming Handheld With a Keyboard

Acer has introduced a new concept hardware piece called the Project DualPlay Mini, attempting to bridge the gap between traditional gaming laptops and Steam Deck-inspired handheld devices. For the past several years, portable PC gamers have had to choose between the versatility of laptops or the smaller size of handhelds. Acer's latest concept device aims to upend that dichotomy by integrating a keyboard directly into a handheld unit.

The Project DualPlay Mini functions as a Windows gaming handheld, styled similarly to Acer's existing Predator Atlas 8 line. Out of the box, its screen is flanked by standard handheld controls, including a D-pad, analog sticks, Xbox-style ABXY face buttons, and dual shoulder triggers on each side. However, the device features a unique flip-and-swivel design that allows users to flip it open and swivel the screen around to align it with a compact, backlit mini keyboard.

Featuring an 8-inch screen, the concept device is designed to offer a portable option for playing keyboard-friendly PC games while traveling, while also supporting connections to external screens. Because it is strictly a concept hardware prototype with no current plans for a retail release, Acer has not shared comprehensive internal specifications. It is known to be powered by an Intel processor and incorporates a dual-fan cooling layout—utilizing one metal fan and one plastic fan—similar to the Predator Atlas 8 cooling design, though featuring thinner blades on the metal element. Additionally, the unit includes two USB-C ports on the back, with one offering Thunderbolt support.

It remains unclear whether Acer will ever bring a commercial product featuring the Project DualPlay Mini design to the market. The concept was showcased alongside other hardware announcements at IFA.
