Bandai Namco Details Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve Online Modes, Air Base Hub, and Ace Passes
Bandai Namco and developer Project Aces have detailed the multiplayer suite for Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve, highlighting co-op and PvP modes, the social Air Base lobby, and two-month seasonal Ace Passes ahead of its October 2026 release.
Publisher Bandai Namco and developer Bandai Namco Aces (Project Aces) have released a new trailer and extensive overview detailing the multiplayer suite of the upcoming flight shooting game, Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve. Titled Ace Combat Online, the multiplayer component introduces a wide range of cooperative and competitive modes, a social hub known as the Air Base, and a seasonal progression system called Ace Passes.
Among the gameplay options are the PvE mode “Co-Op Assault,” where two teams of four players compete for high scores against AI forces, and the PvPvE mode “Co-Op Warfare,” which pits teams against each other amidst allied land, sea, and air units. In Co-Op Warfare, players can raise their Threat Level to increase scoring potential, though doing so turns them into high-value targets for the opposing team. Aircraft classes are categorized into Fighters, Attackers, Multirole, and Electronic Warfare units. Additionally, limited-time events feature four-player Scramble missions against rival elite NPC squads, eight-player Emergency Sortie missions to take down massive superweapons, four-versus-four team battles, and eight-player deathmatches.
Players can also explore the Air Base, a massive social lobby featuring customizable avatars, team training modes, shops utilizing in-game currency, jukeboxes playing music from past entries, and an arcade containing classic Namco titles like Pac-Man. The game introduces two-month Ace Passes featuring basic and premium branches that unlock rewards through tier progression. While premium passes include DLC aircraft, Project Aces confirmed that all aircraft DLC will be available for purchase separately after a season concludes. Pre-orders for the title will receive Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War as a bonus.
Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve is scheduled to launch on October 2, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The franchise's previous entry, Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown, revitalized the series by shipping over 7 million units.
