Ace Combat 8's Campaign Confirmed as Longest in Series History
Brand director Kazutoki Kono reveals that Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve features the largest campaign volume in the franchise's history, surpassing even the content-rich Japanese version of Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere.
Ace Combat brand director Kazutoki Kono has confirmed that the upcoming Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve will feature the longest campaign in the series' history. In an interview with Inven (via Automaton), Kono detailed how the new entry compares to previous titles, particularly Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere, which was known for its extensive content in the Japanese release.
"Ace Combat 3 featured a branching scenario, whereas this title follows a linear narrative," Kono explained. "However, within this linear campaign mode, we aimed to densely pack a rich number of missions, vast presentation, and cinematic cutscenes. In that sense, the playtime from start to finish is set to be the largest in series history."
Despite the shift to a linear narrative structure, Wings of Theve achieves its record length through extensive mission design and cinematic presentation rather than branching storylines. The game will incorporate first-person sequences to enhance narrative immersion, according to developer statements.
Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve is scheduled for release on October 2 across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S/X. The title marks a significant entry in the 30-year-old franchise and will also feature an ambitious multiplayer component alongside the expanded single-player campaign.
