007 First Light Surpasses 4 Million Copies Sold as Sequel Prospects Build

Developer and publisher IO Interactive has announced a major sales milestone for its acclaimed James Bond title, 007 First Light. Just under three months after its official launch, the game has officially crossed four million copies sold worldwide.

The achievement was announced via social media, where the studio thanked players for supporting the double-oh agent's return to the gaming landscape. 007 First Light tracks a young, rookie James Bond training in MI6's newly reinstated double-oh program. The title has enjoyed a strong commercial trajectory since its release in May 2026, when IO Interactive CEO and game director Hakan Abrak revealed the game sold 2.7 million copies in just over its first week. It later reached the 3 million mark in June before hitting its latest 4 million milestone.

According to Circana's Mat Piscatella, 007 First Light is currently the second-highest-selling title in the United States year-to-date, trailing only Resident Evil Requiem, which has surpassed seven million units sold. The commercial victory represents a vital vote of confidence for IO Interactive, which recently navigated a difficult period featuring layoffs connected to the cancellation of a Microsoft Xbox publishing contract for its other project, Project Fantasy.

The game's continued success has sparked discussions regarding a potential sequel. While IO Interactive self-published 007 First Light, the franchise's current owner, Amazon, has indicated that it would seek a more involved role in future James Bond game projects. Despite some initial uncertainty regarding Amazon's involvement, the commercial and critical reception of the game has strongly positioned IO Interactive as the right studio for the property.

Post-launch support for the game remains underway. IO Interactive recently updated the game in July, introducing new TacSim missions, three unlockable weapons, and additional content. The studio is also planning future features, including New Game Plus, Path Tracing support on PC, a new G2 Glasses gadget, and a brand-new mission involving the character Bawma and the famous Golden Gun. Furthermore, online listings from Amazon US and Japan suggest a Nintendo Switch 2 port of 007 First Light may be on the horizon, potentially arriving as early as September 16th.
