Xbox Tests Mythic Achievement System, Finally Matching PlayStation's 18-Year-Old Platinum Trophy Feature
Xbox is beta testing Mythics, its answer to PlayStation's Platinum Trophies, nearly two decades after Sony introduced the system. The feature unlocks when players complete all achievements in a game and will apply retroactively to existing titles.

Xbox has begun testing Mythics, a Platinum Trophy alternative that CEO Asha Sharma confirmed the team was working on. The feature became available to Xbox Insiders on September 30, 2026, with a broader rollout planned for the near future.
Mythics work straightforwardly: earn every achievement in a game (excluding DLC and updates) and you unlock the Mythic award. Unlike some trophy systems, the feature is retroactive, meaning players who have accumulated achievements over years on Xbox platforms may suddenly see a wave of new Mythics retroactively awarded.
Xbox has positioned Mythics as one of the most requested features in the achievements format's history. The move mirrors PlayStation's own adoption of achievements decades earlier. Sony introduced Trophies in 2008 on the PS3, starting with Super Stardust HD, as its response to the Xbox 360's achievements system. Trophies eventually became mandatory across PlayStation and grew into a cultural phenomenon, with players sharing Platinum completions and tracking their progress as a measure of playtime and completion habits.
On Xbox, achievement progress has traditionally fed into a single Gamerscore total, a system that communicates less granular information than Sony's tiered Trophy approach. The Platinum/Mythic distinction allows players to track both breadth (total awards earned across many games) and depth (complete 100% finishes).
Mythics' retroactive application addresses a potential adoption challenge. With tens of thousands of games already available on Xbox without built-in Mythic eligibility, applying the feature to existing titles ensures players have immediate incentive to engage with the system rather than waiting for new releases to support it.
The feature is currently limited to Xbox Insiders, the platform's beta testing community. Microsoft has not specified an exact date for the full rollout beyond confirming it will arrive later in 2026.
