Microsoft is introducing Mythic Achievements to Xbox, a feature designed to recognize players who unlock every achievement available in a game. The move addresses a nearly 20-year gap since PlayStation launched Platinum Trophies, which reward players for obtaining all trophies in a title.
A Mythic Achievement unlocks when a player earns all available Gamerscore in an Xbox game's base achievement list. DLC achievements operate independently and are not required to unlock the Mythic Achievement, mirroring how PlayStation handles additional trophy lists.
The unlock experience includes a dedicated animation sequence. According to reports, the Mythic Achievement pop-up features sparkly animations, sound effects, and acknowledgement of the achievements unlocked for that game. The animation was spotted in a recent preview build of Xbox Game Bar.
Microsoft targeted a release window of before the end of September, with rollout expected to reach Xbox Insiders first. As of September 29, no official launch date has been confirmed.
Players who have already achieved full Gamerscore in past games will retroactively unlock Mythic Achievements. It remains unclear whether players will experience the unlock animation for every retroactive achievement, which could result in an extended congratulatory sequence for those with extensive completion histories.
