Xbox Rolling Out Game Tile Tags to Display Achievements and Friends Status

Xbox is testing a new dashboard feature with Insiders that displays achievement progress and social information directly on game tiles, though some users worry it could clutter the interface.

Xbox has begun rolling out a new dashboard feature that displays achievement progress and social information on game tiles. The update is currently limited to Xbox Insiders enrolled in the Alpha and Alpha Skip-Ahead rings.

The tags visualize data such as achievement counts and which friends are currently online playing specific games. When a game tile is enlarged by hovering over it, the tags move inside the tile. If the tile is not enlarged, the tags float above it.

In practice, the feature shows details like total achievements earned in a game. One example shared by an Xbox Insider showed all 23 achievements completed in Destiny 2, alongside an indicator that a friend was online playing Halo Infinite.

The implementation has drawn mixed reactions. While some players appreciate the additional information at a glance, others have expressed concerns about potential dashboard clutter, particularly for users with large friend lists. If multiple friends are online simultaneously and achievement counts remain permanently visible, the dashboard could become visually crowded.

When the feature rolls out more broadly, Xbox may need to provide toggle options in settings to let users control whether achievement tags and social indicators appear on their dashboard. No official statement has confirmed whether such toggles will be included in the public release.
