Until Dawn 2 Pre-Order Price on PS5 Sparks Discussion Over Game Scope

Pre-orders for the upcoming horror sequel Until Dawn 2 have officially gone live on the PlayStation Store following its recent release date announcement. However, it is the game's pricing strategy that has caught the attention of players. On the UK PlayStation Store, the PlayStation 5 exclusive is priced at £45, marking a notably cheaper entry point than standard first-party releases from Sony Interactive Entertainment.

To put this pricing into context, other recent and upcoming PlayStation Studios titles carry much higher price tags. For instance, this year's Saros launched at £70 / $70, while Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls was priced at £60 / $60. Furthermore, the highly anticipated Marvel's Wolverine is slated to retail for £70 / $70. The £45 price point for Until Dawn 2 has naturally raised questions regarding whether the sequel will feature a shorter gameplay length or a more compact scope than traditional major releases.

Rather than returning to the snowy lodge environment of the original 2015 game, Until Dawn 2 transports players to a tropical resort located on Akishima Island. The sequel features an entirely new cast of characters, with the sole returning exception being Dr. Hill, played once again by Peter Stormare.

Development duties have also shifted. While Supermassive Games created the original title, the sequel is being helmed by Firesprite Games, with additional assistance from Dispatch developer AdHoc Studio. Until Dawn 2 is scheduled to launch on the PlayStation 5 on January 28th.
