Unicorn Overlord Director Announces Dawngazer, New Action RPG Launching 2028

Takafumi Noma, director of the acclaimed Unicorn Overlord, has announced his next project: Dawngazer, an action RPG set to launch in 2028. The game marks the beginning of Ignisphere, a planned fantasy universe that will span multiple games, light novels, and merchandise.

Good Smile Company is publishing Dawngazer under the Ignisphere Studio brand, Noma's new development studio. The game is currently in development for PS5, PC, and Switch 2. A teaser trailer released on the official Ignisphere social account offers an early glimpse of the game's visual direction and world.

Yoshimi Kudo, the composer behind Elden Ring and Unicorn Overlord, will contribute music to the Ignisphere series. His work is featured in the project's announcement materials, signaling the caliber of talent involved.

The Ignisphere project extends beyond games. Kadokawa will publish light novels set in the universe under its Fujimi Fantasia Bunko imprint, alongside merchandise. This multi-media approach suggests Good Smile Company views Ignisphere as a significant long-term intellectual property investment.

Monochrome Corporation, the developer behind Grand Kingdom, is partnering with Ignisphere Studio on the project. Noma's involvement as director carries particular weight given Unicorn Overlord's reception as one of 2024's standout releases.

Details about Dawngazer remain limited at this stage. The 2028 release window positions the game as a mid-cycle title for current and next-generation platforms. Further announcements about gameplay, story, and specifics are expected as development progresses.
