Ultima Online Celebrates 29 Years of Operation with New Legacy Season 2

Ultima Online has reached 29 years of operation, a rare achievement in the MMORPG genre. Publisher Broadsword marked the milestone with a livestream while sharing updates about the game's future.

The longevity reflects a sustained playerbase and ongoing content development. Most MMORPGs struggle to maintain operations beyond their initial years, making Ultima Online's continued presence notable in gaming history.

Broadsword shared retrospective remarks during the celebration. "What was only supposed to last a few years has endured for 29," the publisher stated, emphasizing the unexpected durability of the game that launched in 1997.

New Legacy Season 2 details were announced alongside the anniversary festivities, though specific content and timeline information for the new season were not disclosed in available materials. Legacy is an optional progression system within Ultima Online that offers structured seasonal gameplay for both new and returning players.

The anniversary underscores Ultima Online's position as one of gaming's longest-running active MMORPGs, predating many competitors and surviving multiple ownership transitions and industry shifts.
