Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter Becomes Highest Rated Trails Game With 91 Metacritic Score
Falcom's sequel has claimed the top spot in the Trails franchise on Metacritic and ranks among 2026's best reviewed games overall.
Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter has become the highest rated game in the Trails franchise, surpassing last year's 1st Chapter remake. The PS5 version holds a 91 on Metacritic based on 19 critic reviews, including coverage from Push Square.
The score places 2nd Chapter third among all games released in 2026. Only The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered (94 on PC) and Sektori (94 on Switch 2) rank higher, though those titles carry fewer reviews at the time of scoring.
The critical success signals strong momentum for Falcom's approach to remaking classic Trails titles. The developer has indicated interest in continuing the remake series, with The Third potentially next in line for a modern update.
2nd Chapter launched on PS5 a few weeks before this critical assessment, following a demo release that allowed players to start their adventure early. The strong reception demonstrates audience appetite for the franchise's reimagined entries.
