Tim Schafer, founder of Double Fine Productions, recently discussed his studio's transition away from Xbox Game Studios, describing his overall time at Microsoft as a 'great experience.' However, he questioned why subscription services like Game Pass did not achieve the same level of mainstream success as Netflix.

In an interview, Schafer said, 'I don't understand why Netflix worked and Game Pass didn't.' He noted that while Game Pass offered strong value, it may have struggled to reach broader audiences unfamiliar with gaming subscriptions.

Double Fine officially left Xbox Game Studios earlier this year and has since returned to independence. The studio is currently working on a Kickstarter project and has released a major update for its game Kiln. Additionally, Schafer mentioned the team is developing a new title called 'Thank You Bus Driver.'

Schafer's comments highlight ongoing industry discussions about the challenges facing game subscription models, particularly in competing with established entertainment services like Netflix.
