Tetris Effect is heading to Meta's new VR ecosystem with a mixed reality overhaul designed to take full advantage of the company's latest hardware.

Tetris Effect: Mixed Realities will launch on Meta VR Glasses, Quest 3, and Quest 3S in 2027. The new version adds hand-controlled gameplay and room-aware mixed reality features that blend the game into your physical surroundings. Meta VR Glasses' passthrough cameras will map your room's geometry, lighting, and visual effects to create an immersive experience where Tetris blocks fall through your actual space.

The game builds on Tetris Effect's foundation as a modern reimagining of the classic puzzle formula. Designed by Tetsuya Mizuguchi and developed by his team at Enhance, Resonair, and Monstars, the original combined traditional Tetris mechanics with reactive music, particle effects, and environments that respond to player actions. Tetris Effect originally launched on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR in 2018 before expanding to Quest in 2020.

Tetris Effect: Connected, an updated multiplayer version, arrived on Steam in 2021 alongside free updates for PlayStation VR, Epic Games Store, and Quest. A PlayStation 5 and PSVR2 release followed in 2023.

The mixed reality announcement comes as Meta expands its VR software slate ahead of Meta VR Glasses' release. The company also revealed several other titles heading to its new hardware and existing Quest devices, including Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies VR from AMATA Games and Capcom, Two Point Hospital Mixed Reality Edition, the free-to-play puzzle game Dragon Grove from Schell Games, and the tactical card battler Cardmada.

Tetris Effect: Mixed Realities represents a significant shift in how the long-running franchise approaches VR gameplay, moving beyond traditional controllers to embrace spatial interaction and environmental awareness as core mechanics.
