Bandai Namco continues its effort to bring classic Tales games to modern platforms with Tales of Eternia Remastered, staying faithful to the original while addressing accessibility and presentation concerns.

The remaster's most significant improvements centre on translation and visuals. The project features a completely redone, improved translation paired with a more pleasing font and text boxes compared to the original release. Since Tales of Eternia is primarily a 2D game, the translation upgrade offers a more substantial improvement than visual enhancements alone.

For visuals, the remaster uses a raw pixel approach displayed in widescreen. While some assets benefit from increased resolution, many remain unchanged with the improvement coming primarily from higher output resolution. The team has also redrawn character portraits, though limited demo time prevented a thorough assessment of these changes.

Gameplay refinements include battle speed options and improved auto-battle functionality. The A-LMBS combat system remains intact, and the changes appear to successfully balance accessibility improvements with preserving the original game's design philosophy. Optional objective markers have been added to help guide players through certain sections, addressing potential navigation confusion in pixel art environments.

The demo build played on PlayStation 5 felt promising despite being limited to approximately 30 minutes of gameplay. The remaster is confirmed Steam Deck verified, and will release across multiple platforms simultaneously.

Tales of Eternia Remastered launches October 15, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2.
