Sturmjäger brings old-school shmup action to PC and consoles in January 2027
German studio Byteproduct is launching Sturmjäger, a horizontally-scrolling shooter that blends retro arcade gameplay with modern visuals. The game arrives January 14 on PS5, PC, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch with local co-op support.

German studio Byteproduct has announced Sturmjäger, a new shoot-em-up arriving on PC and console platforms in early 2027. The game launches January 14 on PS5, PC, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch.
Sturmjäger captures the essence of classic shmups while adopting a modern, highly futuristic visual style. The game features 10 stages of horizontally-scrolling action, taking players from the farthest reaches of the galaxy to the deepest regions of its oceans.
Byteproduct emphasises gameplay as the primary focus, building in a deep, complex scoring system and rewards for executing daring melee attacks, 1CC runs, chains, and killstreaks. The developer notes that Sturmjäger is designed for players who "want to skip the cinematic fluff and dive straight into the unadulterated, chaotic, and adrenaline-fueled arcade action".
Local co-op multiplayer is supported for those seeking a wingman. The game's custom soundtrack was composed by Rafel Dyll, whose work appears in other modern shmups including Ghost Blade and Neo Geo titles Last Hope and Neo XYX. Byteproduct will upload soundtrack samples to YouTube in the coming weeks, with Stage 1's theme "Spacestation" already available.
