Stephen Root Confirms His Role in Grand Theft Auto 6 Cast

Veteran actor Stephen Root has confirmed that he plays a role in Rockstar Games' upcoming title, Grand Theft Auto 6. Known for his work in projects such as Barry, NewsRadio, Office Space, and King of the Hill, Root addressed his involvement following months of fan speculation. Speculation intensified after the release of the Grand Theft Auto 6 Extended Look, which debuted as a timed exclusive on Netflix and featured a scene with a character named Brian at a rooftop restaurant.

In an interview with the Associated Press, Root confirmed his appearance in the game and noted that his character had been visible in promotional materials released by Rockstar. Root explained that his voice recognition made it difficult to keep the role under wraps. Fans were able to connect the dots simply by hearing his voice from the early rollouts. Root defended the reveal by pointing out that his distinctive voice gave away the secret before formal announcements were made. He also shared his enthusiasm for the project, agreeing that working on the game was a completely different experience compared to his usual acting work.

While Root did not disclose extensive plot specifics, reports and discussions surrounding his character indicate that he voices Brian Heder, described as a mentor to protagonist Jason Duval. Rockstar Games has otherwise kept the remaining cast members away from the public eye as the launch date approaches. Grand Theft Auto 6 is currently slated for a console release, with no official details yet announced regarding a potential PC version.
