Sony Exits CES After 60 Years, Pivots Away From Consumer Electronics
Sony will skip the 2027 Consumer Electronics Show, ending six decades of attendance as the company shifts focus toward entertainment properties including gaming, film, and streaming.

Sony will not attend the 2027 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, according to reporting from Nikkei via Japan Times. The decision marks the end of a 60-year presence at the annual event, which Sony has attended since its inaugural edition in 1967.
The company's 2026 CES appearance was anchored by a partnership with Honda on the Afeela electric vehicle. That collaboration has since been scrapped, removing a key reason for Sony's participation.
Sony's exit reflects a broader strategic shift away from traditional consumer electronics. Earlier this year, the company sold its iconic Bravia television division to Chinese manufacturer TCL. While Sony continues producing cameras and headphones, the firm has increasingly prioritized entertainment divisions including movies, music, games, and streaming.
PlayStation remains a major pillar of that strategy. Sony's console brand holds the market leadership position, competing against Nintendo and Xbox. The company has also invested in emerging entertainment categories, acquiring the streaming platform Crunchyroll to expand its anime offerings.
Sony's decision to exit CES may signal broader industry shifts, though the move itself follows the company's stated direction of concentrating resources on entertainment rather than consumer electronics.
