Sony Reportedly Developing New Ape Escape Game
Speculation suggests Sony is working on a new entry in the dormant Ape Escape franchise, potentially marking another step in the publisher's effort to revive classic PlayStation properties.

Sony is reportedly developing a new Ape Escape game, according to industry insider NatetheHate2. The rumour surfaced on the ResetEra forums, where the leaker responded with knowing emoji reactions when discussing Sony's plans to bring back dormant franchises.
NatetheHate2 clarified that Team ASOBI, the studio behind Astro Bot, is not leading the project. The game has not been outsourced to Bandai Namco, according to the leaker's knowledge, though Sony has recently licensed other dormant properties like Patapon and Hot Shots Golf to the third-party publisher.
The speculation around a new Ape Escape title has intensified since Astro Bot's release, which revived interest in the PS1 and PS2-era platformer franchise. Sony's increased merchandise activity for Ape Escape in Japan adds further weight to the reports. New PlayStation CEO Hideaki Nishino has expressed a desire to improve the company's domestic performance in its home market, suggesting any new Ape Escape game may be developed with Japanese audiences in mind, though it would release worldwide.
This report arrives amid other recent announcements of classic franchise revivals, including new Killzone and Uncharted projects. Nothing has been officially confirmed by Sony at this stage.
