Sonic Frontiers Director Expresses Interest in Remaking Secret Rings and Black Knight
Sonic Frontiers director Morio Kishimoto has revealed his interest in potentially remaking or reimagining Sonic and the Secret Rings and Sonic and the Black Knight.

Morio Kishimoto, the director of Sonic Frontiers, has shared his interest in remaking or reimagining Sonic and the Secret Rings and Sonic and the Black Knight. Both games originally launched during the Wii era as part of the storybook series, which placed the fast-paced hedgehog into classic storybook settings. While those entries faced certain shortcomings upon release, they also retained a dedicated fan base over the years.
Kishimoto discussed his preference during an official question and answer column when asked which games he would personally like to tackle next. He highlighted the two Wii titles because he learned essential lessons about franchise design through them. According to Kishimoto, working on those projects allowed him to continue as a game director to this day. He believes his skills have honed over time and feels confident he could perform even better now by challenging his past work.
Beyond the storybook titles, Kishimoto mentioned an interest in Sonic Unleashed. That particular project served as a direct foundation for the level design used in games ranging from Sonic Colors up to Sonic Forces. He also noted that the infamous 2006 Sonic the Hedgehog game left a strong impression because it was developed concurrently with Secret Rings. However, Kishimoto stated he has no desire to revisit the original 1991 Mega Drive release, explaining that the foundational classic is too great and presumptuous for him to ever attempt reconstructing it.
