Square Enix has officially announced Romancing SaGa 3: Destinies United during a Nintendo Direct presentation, revealing a full 3D remake of the 1995 Super Famicom classic. Following the successful launch of Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven in October 2024, this new project is scheduled to launch on February 16, 2027. The title will be available across multiple platforms, including PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2.

Set in a world burdened by a recurring disaster known as the Rise of Morastrum, the narrative follows a devastating event where the star of death eclipses the sun every 300 years. This phenomenon destroys all newborn life in the year of its occurrence, save for a single survivor known as the Child of Destiny. Players begin by selecting one of eight distinct protagonists: Mikhail Ausbach von Loanne, Monika Ausbach, Katarina Lauran, Khalid, Julian Nohl, Thomas Bent, Sarah Carson, and Ellen Carson. Each character comes with their own unique background and motivations as they search for the Child of Destiny following the return of the Four Sinistrals from the Abyss.

Gameplay retains the series' hallmark Freeform Scenario System, where individual player choices significantly impact story progression, events, and character encounters. In addition to the core protagonists, users can recruit over twenty secondary characters, such as the vampire count Leonid, the fairie Peony, the masked hero Robin the Remarkable, and the sentient snowman Flurry. Characters feature seven base attributes influenced by their chosen Nonastrum, or star of fate, which determines affinity for spells and techniques.

Combat utilizes a timeline-based turn format where players can see turn orders and secure pre-emptive advantages by striking field encounters first. The mechanics incorporate classic features like the Glimmer system—allowing combatants to spontaneously learn new techniques during battles—evasion skills, changeable tactical formations, and powerful United Attacks unleashed via a fully charged Overdrive gauge. Players who experience character exhaustion will manage Life Points (LP), while three selectable difficulty modes—Casual, Normal, and Classic (Hard)—can be toggled at any time through the Options menu. Furthermore, the release will feature minigames like War Mode and Business, soundtrack toggles between original and new arrangements, and a Digital Deluxe edition providing early access alongside bonus items and digital content.
