Arcade Rail Shooter Railbreak DX Launches on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox Play Anywhere
Dead Drop Studios has released Railbreak DX, an expanded version of the arcade rail shooter featuring upgraded Unreal Engine 5 graphics, 18 playable characters, and new game modes.
Developer Dead Drop Studios LLC has officially launched Railbreak DX, an expanded and upgraded version of the original arcade-style rail shooter. The title is available now for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox Play Anywhere, complete with support for Xbox Cloud Streaming. Serving as a prelude to Outbreak: Shades of Horror, the game brings classic 1990s arcade action into the modern era utilizing Unreal Engine 5.
Railbreak DX builds extensively upon its predecessor by doubling the playable character roster from nine to eighteen diverse survivors. Each playable character comes equipped with unique loadouts, specific firing rates, and distinct quirks. For instance, players choosing Michael are immune to poison and bleed effects, though they rely on an ammunition-hungry shotgun. Alternatively, players stepping into the shoes of Rin utilize ice bullets and a special katana, which activates a high-scoring state at the risk of triggering random negative conditions. Alongside the expanded cast, the game features a full story mode set across six scenarios in Cypress Ridge, accompanied by bonus modes such as Score Attack, an endless Onslaught Mode, and the rogue-like Glitch Gauntlet.
Players can also take advantage of destructible environments to uncover hidden items and secret weapons, such as a high-damage magnum hidden in Act IV. The deluxe package introduces fresh customization options, allowing players to choose between fighting classic undead enemies, facing dinosaurs from DINOBREAK, or mixing both enemy types together. Additional features include a dedicated practice mode, optional two-player cooperative play across the entire game, and complete game rebalancing.
Alongside the launch of Railbreak DX, publisher notices indicate that the original legacy Railbreak title will be removed from individual direct sale in September 2026. Railbreak DX is designed for long-term support as an expanded experience, with future content updates and paid downloadable content planned by the development team.
