Pro Counter-Strike 2 players explain why polling rate matters, but 8K isn't necessary
Luminosity Gaming's Azuwu and yxngstxr shared their take on mouse polling rates, revealing that while higher rates do make a difference, the sweet spot sits between 2K and 4K for most players.

Two professional Counter-Strike 2 players from Luminosity Gaming have weighed in on the ongoing debate over mouse polling rates, offering practical insights into what actually matters for competitive play.
Azuwu noted that the jump from 1K to 2K is noticeable, but beyond that, diminishing returns set in. "I'd say there's a difference from 1 to 2K and then, after that, 8K you don't even reach anyway," Azuwu said. "So it's only 2K or 4K, but they're both fine. I play at 4K." He plays at 4K polling rate, suggesting that's a solid middle ground.
His teammate yxngstxr, who plays at 1K, explained that polling rate preference depends on playstyle. Players using low sensitivity who favor smooth crosshair movement tend to prefer 2K or 4K, while those who play flick-heavy prefer 1K. "If you play 4K, it's going to be way smoother," yxngstxr said, though he sticks with 1K because he relies more on flick-shots than sustained tracking.
The consensus from both players is that 1K is a minimum for competitive play, but higher rates do provide a tangible advantage. However, 8K polling rates, which have become more common in recent gaming mice, don't appear to offer practical benefits for most players.
