Overwatch Details Season 5 Content and End of First Story Arc
Blizzard announced new content for Overwatch at BlizzCon, including vampire-inspired support hero Doctrine, the Watchpoint: Grimsvötn map, and major reworks for Sombra and Roadhog.

Overwatch developer Blizzard has shared new details regarding upcoming updates for the free-to-play team shooter, including the conclusion of its first year-long story arc. The announcements were made during BlizzCon alongside other news from the studio.
Season 5 will launch on 6th October 2026, marking the end of The Reign of Talon story arc. The update will introduce Doctrine as Hero 54. Described as a vampire-inspired support hero and ally of Doomfist, Doctrine uses a scepter, infusions, and bat-like drones to manipulate lifeforce. Players can test the character early through a limited-time Hero Trial running until 14th September 2026. Blizzard also plans to tease Hero 55 when the current story arc concludes, pointing toward the narrative direction for 2027.
In addition to Doctrine, Season 5 will bring the new Watchpoint: Grimsvötn map and the return of Dokiwatch. Major character changes are also scheduled. Sombra will transition from the Damage class to become a Support hero, and Roadhog will receive a major rework. To celebrate BlizzCon, players who complete one game following the Opening Ceremony will receive a BlizzCon Mythic Gift. The game also features a new in-game collaboration with South Korean musical group LE SSERAFIM.
Further details regarding future updates will be revealed during an Overwatch Spotlight scheduled for February 2027.
