Once Upon a Katamari confirms Nintendo Switch 2 specs: 4K docked, 60 FPS

Bandai Namco has shared technical details for Once Upon a Katamari on Nintendo Switch 2, revealing substantial improvements over the original Switch version.

The Switch 2 edition will support up to 4K resolution when docked and up to 1080p in handheld mode, matching the maximum output capabilities of the console. Frame rate reaches up to 60 FPS, compared to 30 FPS on the original Switch, which was limited to 1080p docked and 720p in portable mode.

The publisher clarified several limitations. Online multiplayer is restricted to Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 players only, with no cross-platform play supported. Cross-save functionality between versions is not available. The game will not support HDR, and DLC purchased on Switch cannot transfer to Switch 2.

Once Upon a Katamari features new stages, a fresh soundtrack, and gameplay tools like a magnet to draw nearby objects. Players can roll through historical periods including the Jurassic Era, Ice Age, and historic Japan. The game supports 68 playable cousins with customization options and includes a competitive 4-player KatamariBall mode for online and offline play.

Once Upon a Katamari launches on Nintendo Switch 2 on October 8, 2026.
