Nvidia Releases DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction with Second-Gen Transformer Model

Nvidia has officially released DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction, bringing an updated AI-based denoiser built on its second-generation Transformer model to improve visual artifacting, lighting accuracy, and temporal stability in ray-traced and path-traced games.

Nvidia has officially released DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction, introducing a new AI-based denoiser built upon the second-generation Transformer architecture initially utilized in DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution. Designed to tackle visual artifacting, ghosting, and smearing that often affect path-traced and ray-traced games in motion, the updated feature aims to provide clearer motion, improved temporal stability, and more accurate lighting without introducing an added performance cost compared to previous versions.

According to Nvidia, the DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction model delivers four main enhancements: an efficient denoiser that yields 35% more compute capability while processing 20% more parameters, enhanced super resolution with deeper spatial awareness and motion data integration, an expanded training dataset for closer-to-ground-truth scene reconstruction, and finer developer controls for precise temporal accumulation tuning.

Early testing across various publications and preview builds indicates that the new iteration successfully addresses major visual flaws present in previous implementations. Titles such as Resident Evil Requiem, PRAGMATA, and Crimson Desert showed significant improvements, eliminating blurriness, flickering, and firefly reflection trails. Other titles like Cyberpunk 2077 and Alan Wake 2 also benefited from increased sharpness and reduced trailing, though minor artifacting remained in specific edge cases, highlighting that complete path-traced image fidelity is still an evolving field.

Players can enable DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction through the Nvidia App by selecting a compatible title, navigating to the 'DLSS Override - Model Presets' entry, and choosing 'Preset F' from the 'Ray Reconstruction' dropdown menu. Alongside current titles, Nvidia announced that the technology will roll out to upcoming path-traced releases such as IO Interactive's 007: First Light on September 15th and Control Resonant upon its launch on September 24th.
