Nintendo Direct Sept 9, 2026 Reveals Metroid Ravenous, Kirby and the World Beyond, and Switch 2 Ports

Following September 8th’s Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct, Nintendo hosted a standard Nintendo Direct presentation on September 9, 2026. While the broadcast may not have been an overwhelming blockbuster showcase, it featured a variety of updates, ports, and new announcements spanning first-party and third-party titles.

Among the major highlights were several high-profile ports heading to newer hardware. Players saw Resident Evil remakes for parts 2, 3, and 4, alongside The Witcher 3 getting a Definitive Edition for the Switch 2, and Far Cry 3 alongside its Blood Dragon spinoff. Additionally, games like It Takes Two received a Switch 2 upgrade designed to enable higher resolutions and framerates.

First-party titles also received significant attention, particularly with dedicated upgrades for the Nintendo Switch 2. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition was shown with a new mode bearing similarities to Vampire Survivors-style gameplay, alongside a new companion named Shimmer. Meanwhile, Pikmin 4 received a Switch 2 upgrade allowing players to use the built-in microphone to give commands directly to Oatchi. Pikmin 4 also introduces a new weekend-exclusive challenge mode called Dandori Academy, featuring a 1-try-only rule and ranked leaderboards.

Towards the end of the presentation, a voiceover and subtitle sequence initially reminiscent of Metroid Dread gave way to the reveal of a brand-new 2D Metroid title called Metroid Ravenous. Seemingly developed by MercurySteam—known for their work on Samus Returns and Metroid Dread—the new game is scheduled for release this upcoming January. Closing out the direct was a substantial trailer for a brand-new Kirby title, Kirby and the World Beyond, which is slated for a Spring 2027 release window. The broadcast also offered a brief look at the Persona 6 logo, leaving players looking ahead to future events like the Tokyo Game Show and The Game Awards for more announcements.
