Nightdive Studios Discusses Challenges of Supporting the Aging Nintendo Switch
Remaster specialist Nightdive Studios notes that supporting the original Nintendo Switch is becoming increasingly difficult due to aging hardware.

Remaster studio Nightdive Studios wants to continue supporting the original Nintendo Switch console, but notes that doing so is getting harder and harder. Over the years, the studio has released multiple remasters for the platform, including Doom 64, Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster, and System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster.
Grover Wimberly IV, project manager and producer or director at Nightdive Studios, addressed the situation in a recent interview. He stated: "With Switch 1 and I say this with all respect to Nintendo players, Switch 1 is getting harder and harder as it's an old console. But as long as we're able to, we will do our best to try to support Switch 1."
As the original hardware approaches a decade old, attention is also shifting toward the next generation. Wimberly highlighted advantages for the newer hardware, explaining that the system features more horsepower for smoother frame rates, clearer textures, faster loading times, and mouse support.
Regarding upgrades, Wimberly noted that players moving from the original console version to the newer hardware version will not need to make a separate purchase, and their save data will remain intact. The studio aims to keep titles playable on the original console while noting that the best experience will be on the successor system.
The next remaster scheduled from Nightdive is Sin: Reloaded, which is slated to launch on both the original console and the newer platform.
