Mortis Gods Confirmed for Ahsoka Season 2, Dave Filoni Discusses Adapting the Complex Force Beings

The Mortis gods are coming to Ahsoka season 2. Director Dave Filoni confirmed the Force beings will factor into the story after the first season hinted at their involvement through Baylan Skoll's presence at a statue of the Father.

"It's definitely a thing," Filoni told Empire magazine of the gods appearing in season 2. The season 1 finale showed Baylan standing on the statue pointing into the distance, while the season 2 trailer teased him seeking a great power, presumably connected to these beings.

The trio represents different aspects of the Force: the Daughter embodies the light side, the Son the dark side, and the Father represents balance. They were first introduced in The Clone Wars, where Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Ahsoka encountered them. The arc concluded with all three gods dead after the Son killed the Daughter and the Father killed himself to weaken the Son enough for Anakin to deliver the final blow.

Filoni described the thematic core of the Mortis storyline as examining how power is wielded. "What is the danger if it's real? And how are you going to prioritise your goals here?" he explained. "What would a Jedi do, versus what would a regular person do? Those things come up through the course of the season."

Adapting the characters to live-action presents its own complexities. "It was so surprising when George Lucas created these archetype god characters," Filoni said, reflecting on Lucas's original vision. Ahsoka season 2 arrives on Disney Plus on January 20, alongside the return of Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker.
