Minecraft's Fourth Dimension the Sift Opens in Dungeons II This Week
Minecraft Dungeons II launched September 29, 2026 with access to the Sift, the game's first new dimension since 2011. Java and Bedrock Edition players will have to wait until 2027.
Minecraft Dungeons II arrived September 29, 2026 across Windows, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, bringing the first official access to the Sift, Minecraft's fourth dimension. The Sift joins the Overworld, the Nether and the End as a playable realm.
The Sift is the first new dimension added to Minecraft since the End launched with version 1.0 in 2011. Mojang announced the dimension at Minecraft Live on September 26, 2026, confirming it will eventually reach Java and Bedrock Edition.
Inside Dungeons II, rifts appear across the connected world as you progress through the main story. Walking into a rift transports you to the Sift. The Minecraft Wiki lists two entry points: the Deep Dark portal, powered by a Note Block Machine structure, and rifts created by the Grand Illusioner's staff.
The dimension itself consists of red and orange stone, bright green plants, ichor and sculk blocks. A desert-like area called the Carapace features massive bone structures resembling Nether fossils. According to the wiki, the Sift is where corrupted sculk originated, though healthy sculk still grows there.
Java and Bedrock Edition players cannot access the Sift yet. Xbox Wire confirmed the dimension is coming to both versions in 2027, though Mojang has not announced a specific release date or revealed how players will unlock the portal. Lead designer Jens Bergensten stated the team wanted the Sift to stand apart from existing dimensions while fitting alongside them.
YouTube videos claiming to show Sift access in vanilla Minecraft use community mods only. These methods will not transfer to the official 2027 update, and Mojang may implement a completely different portal mechanism. Players have already suggested various unlock methods on the official Minecraft Feedback site, ranging from boss fights in the Ancient City to simple portal construction, but Mojang has not indicated which approach it will take.
