Artist Recreates Minecraft, Backrooms, and Mario in Charming Clay Style

3D illustrator Crisppyboat has created a new series of faux claymation works featuring characters from Minecraft, the Backrooms film, Over the Garden Wall, and more, all crafted in Blender.

3D illustrator and animator Crisppyboat has unveiled a fresh collection of clay-style character recreations, continuing the artist's signature faux claymation aesthetic. All works were created using Blender.

The series celebrates multiple franchises and media. Crisppyboat recreated Steve from Minecraft in the newly announced dimension Sift, depicted within a dreamy landscape alongside a quirky bunny dweller. The artist also honored Mario in time for Super Mario 64's 30th anniversary and featured characters from the animated series Futurama.

For the spooky season, Crisppyboat paid homage to Over the Garden Wall, recreating Wirt, Greg, and Beatrice in a cozy and eerie style. The collection also includes clay-style renderings of characters from the 2024 A24 film Backrooms, directed by Kane Parsons.

The artist's portfolio extends beyond games and animation. Crisppyboat previously worked on official promotional material for Doom: The Dark Ages and has created fan art for Kingdom Hearts, Animal Crossing, and The Amazing Digital Circus.

For creators interested in achieving similar clay textures in Blender, several tools are available, including Potter's Touch Clay Textures from B Production, Clay 4.Doh from Rahul Parihar, and Clay Pencil, a Geometry Nodes-powered tool by Daniel Martínez Lara. More of Crisppyboat's work can be found on the artist's X/Twitter account.
