Mojang Studios showed the longest gameplay footage yet for Minecraft Dungeons II during Minecraft Live on September 26, 2026. The sequel maintains the co-op dungeon crawling of the 2020 original while overhauling how players move, explore and equip their characters. The game releases September 29, 2026, on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Game Pass, with development handled by Mojang and Double Eleven.
The most visible change replaces the first game's mission-selection system with one connected world featuring larger levels. Instead of picking missions from an overworld map, players now navigate freely and choose their own route through the world. The sequel includes main quests alongside side quests. Rifts scattered throughout open portals to The Sift, a new dimension also coming to the main Minecraft game in 2027.
Jumping enters the series for the first time, working alongside the returning roll mechanic. Players can perform jump attacks during combat, adding a new layer to moment-to-moment gameplay. The new movement option complements significant gear and progression changes.
Dungeons II doubles available gear slots from 6 to 12. Armor no longer functions as a single item but splits into four separate pieces matching the main Minecraft game's system. Talismans represent a new equipment category that grants passive bonuses and grow stronger the longer they remain equipped. Players can equip up to three talismans, finding them during specific quests or in special chests. The Tasty Bone, an artifact from the original, becomes a talisman that passively summons its dog companion.
The enchanting system receives a complete redesign. The first game attached enchantments directly to found gear. Dungeons II separates this system: players collect enchantment books while exploring and store them in a personal library. At the enchantsmith, any enchantment from the library can be applied to any gear slot. Found gear can also roll random bonus effects, meaning two copies of the same item may differ.
The story continues after the first game's conclusion, when the Arch-Illager and the Orb of Dominance fell. The world's ecosystem has destabilized, prompting three powerful illagers to form the Illager High Council. The campaign also features the Deep Dark and Ancient Cities.
Up to four players can participate in co-op sessions online or offline. Dungeons II introduces matchmaking to join other players' sessions, alongside party code connections. The game launches on Xbox Game Pass from day one. Pre-orders active until September 28 include a Twisted cape, Twisted Chicken pet and two hero skins.
