Minecraft, Animal Crossing, and Stardew Valley Soundtracks Identified as Best for Focus

Recent research conducted by Alpine Hearing Protection in collaboration with Dr. Max Doshay of KMN Psych has identified that specific video game soundtracks can serve as effective cues for focus during work or studying. Rather than turning to silence or traditional orchestral pieces, listeners are finding that certain gaming tracks help keep their brains engaged without causing a distraction.

According to the findings, the iconic track "Sweden" from Minecraft exhibited the strongest focus-friendly audio profile. It was closely followed by tracks from Animal Crossing: New Horizons and "Spring" from Stardew Valley. Additional titles rounding out the top ten list include The Legend of Zelda, the Nintendo Wii Mii Channel, Super Mario Galaxy, Wii Sports, Geometry Dash, Mario Kart, and Subway Surfers.

The study highlights that optimal tracks for concentration generally share specific acoustic traits: low perceived loudness, minimal dynamic range, limited bass energy, and nearly zero treble energy. Furthermore, the absence of singing prevents lyrics from pulling away the listener's attention during tasks like writing or chores. Dr. Max Doshay explained in a press release that familiar game audio creates positive associations with relaxation, achievement, or exploration. Because listeners already know the music well, it provides just enough comfortable familiarity to prevent the mind from seeking alternative distractions without demanding full attention.
