Minecraft Adds Over 300,000 New Players Daily After 17 Years

Minecraft continues to attract hundreds of thousands of new players daily, according to Xbox CEO Asha Sharma. The statistic was shared during the recent Minecraft Live event, highlighting sustained growth for a game that launched 17 years ago.

Sharma noted that over 300,000 players experience Minecraft for the first time on an average day. Combined with 425 million copies sold across its lifetime, the figure demonstrates the game's enduring appeal to both returning players and newcomers across age groups and regions.

Minecraft's accessibility across platforms contributes to this broad adoption. The Java Edition runs on Windows, Mac, and Linux. Bedrock Edition supports Windows and Chromebook devices. Console availability spans Xbox One, Xbox Series platforms, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch variants including the original Switch, Switch Lite, Switch OLED, and the newly released Nintendo Switch 2.

Mobile players can access the game on iOS, Android, and Amazon Fire devices. Beyond the main game, Mojang has expanded the franchise with spin-offs including Minecraft Stories and Minecraft Dungeons, with Minecraft Dungeons 2 launching on September 29, 2026.

Minecraft Live 2026 showcased upcoming content for the sandbox title. Mojang announced The Sift, described as the first new dimension in more than 14 years, arriving in 2027. The event also highlighted new creator tools and confirmed Minecraft's presence on Nintendo Switch 2. Additionally, a second live-action Minecraft movie featuring Jack Black and Jason Momoa is in development.
