Mewgenics Receives Critical Acclaim as a Deep Strategy Roguelike on PlayStation 5
Mewgenics has launched on PlayStation 5, offering a strategic roguelike experience featuring cat breeding, turn-based combat, and environmental interactions.

Mewgenics has arrived on the PlayStation 5 platform. Created by Edmund McMillen and programmer Tyler Glaiel, the indie title delivers a massive gameplay experience focused on feline breeding and turn-based strategy.
Players manage a household by breeding or adopting stray cats, tracking inheritable stats, mutations, and diseases. Run preparation involves selecting four cats, assigning distinct classes such as fighters, tanks, and mages, and equipping them with various items, armor, and consumables. Once prepared, players venture through alleyways, sewers, caves, and deserts by navigating map nodes filled with battles, shops, and random events influenced by cat statistics and dice rolls.
Combat takes place on a 12x12 grid featuring collectibles, environmental hazards, and enemies. Cats unlock active and passive abilities as they level up, creating powerful combat synergies. Environmental interactivity plays a major role during encounters, allowing elements like fire and water to alter the battlefield dynamically. For example, wet grass can grow into tall grass to boost dodge percentages, while fire can spread across the map and damage units.
The release features stylish cartoon visuals, animations, and high quality jazz music composed by Ridiculon, with features such as cross save functionality included. Reviewers note that while the game includes dark humor and questionable themes that may not appeal to everyone alongside minor user interface issues, the overall package delivers deep tactical mechanics and extensive replay value.
