Metroid Ravenous Reveal Propels Metroid Dread to Top of Nintendo eShop Charts
The announcement of Metroid Ravenous has driven Metroid Dread back to the top of the US Nintendo eShop charts nearly five years after its initial launch.
The announcement of Metroid Ravenous has caused Metroid Dread to shoot back to the top of the Nintendo eShop charts almost exactly five years after its release. Last week's Nintendo Direct was considered somewhat disappointing for many due to the lack of first-party games announced for the Switch 2 heading into 2026. However, everyone agreed that Metroid Ravenous looks impressive.
Metroid Dread revived the series back in 2021 and completely overshadowed Metroid Prime 4. With developer MercurySteam seemingly back on board for the next 2D Metroid game, Metroid interest is high again. Players who slept on Metroid Dread upon release are now taking the opportunity to catch up after seeing the footage for Ravenous.
As spotted by GoNintendo, the hype for the next title alongside Nintendo's sale caused Samus's latest 2D adventure to shoot straight to the top of the Nintendo eShop in the US. It surpassed titles like Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, Super Mario Party Jamboree, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Metroid Ravenous has a major convenience win over Metroid Dread because players can currently play all of the previous 2D Metroid games on modern hardware to catch up. When Dread was launching, players had to use a Wii U for Fusion and Zero Mission and a 3DS for Samus Returns, since only the original Metroid and Super Metroid were available on the Switch at that time.
