Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Version 4.0.0 Update Now Available With Switch 2 Enhancements

Nintendo has released the version 4.0.0 update for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, bringing a free update that introduces a range of new features, performance improvements, and hardware compatibility enhancements. According to the official support page rundown released on September 1, 2026, the update is designed to expand the game's capabilities alongside support for newer hardware systems.

Among the primary additions in version 4.0.0 is support for the Nintendo Switch 2 display and high-resolution televisions, providing players with clearer visuals. Additionally, Nintendo has shortened the loading times that occur before races and battles begin, helping to streamline the overall gameplay experience.

The update also expands multiplayer capabilities by adding support for 5 to 8 players. To achieve an eight-player session, players can connect up to seven standard Nintendo Switch controllers—such as Joy-Con or Nintendo Switch Pro Controllers—to the Nintendo Switch 2 system, though it requires at least one Joy-Con 2 controller or a Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller to facilitate the full eight-player setup.

Furthermore, version 4.0.0 introduces CameraPlay support, which requires a separately sold USB camera. Players are given the option to toggle the camera on or off during Multiplayer (2-4 players) and Online Play modes. For online usage, participants must join a GameChat session, ensuring that camera footage and microphone audio are transmitted exclusively to GameChat members. When enabled, a player's face is displayed during races.
