Lufia and Lufia II arrive on modern platforms in 2027
Clear River Games and Taito are bringing the classic SNES RPG duology Lufia & the Fortress of Doom and Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals to PC, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch next year as Lufia I & II: The Sinistrals Saga.

Two beloved 16-bit RPGs are returning to modern systems. Clear River Games, in association with Taito, announced that Lufia & the Fortress of Doom and Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals will launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch in 2027 under the collective title Lufia I & II: The Sinistrals Saga.
Originally developed by the now-defunct studio Neverland, the games tell a generation-spanning story following multiple heroes attempting to stop the Sinistrals, a god-like clan threatening to conquer the planet. The first game released in 1993, while Lufia II, technically a prequel, became the series' European introduction under the confusing title "Lufia". Players explore dungeons in classic top-down 16-bit perspective, battling monsters and collecting equipment across both titles.
Lufia II is particularly known for its roguelike dungeon, which challenges parties to navigate 99 randomly generated levels on a run-by-run basis. This feature set it apart from typical SNES RPGs of its era.
Clear River Games states the re-release will be "enhanced for modern play", though specifics remain unclear. The publisher has not used the word "remaster", suggesting the enhancements will likely include save states, rewind functionality, and quality-of-life improvements rather than graphical overhauls.
The announcement came during PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct. A physical edition will be available alongside digital versions. The Sinistrals Saga includes only the two SNES titles; later entries released on Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, and Nintendo DS are not part of this package.
This re-release follows Clear River Games' recent announcement of a 2027 release date for Terranigma, another classic SNES RPG making its return to modern systems.
