Kim Kaphwan Joins Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves as Season 3 Character
The Taekwondo master and father of Kim Dong Hwan and Kim Jae Hoon returns to the fighting game roster with a moveset that balances his sons' techniques while offering superior aerial combat options.

Kim Kaphwan, the longtime Taekwondo specialist and leader of the King of Fighters Korea team, has been added to Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves as part of Season 3. The character, who first appeared in Fatal Fury 2 in 1992, brings a fighting style that combines elements from his two sons already in the game while establishing his own strengths in aerial offense.
Kaphwan's moveset is built almost entirely around kicks, with only his short and long Light Punch as exceptions. His normals have strong forward range, and he features several signature Taekwondo techniques. His Hangatzu Zan forward split kick can float opponents on counter-hit, setting up combo strings, while his Hien Zan summersault kick functions as both a jump-in check and a charge attack that can chain into combos.
A standout element of his kit is the Haki Kyaku stomp, which branches into four different follow-ups based on button input. Depending on the attack button pressed, Kaphwan can execute another stomp, dodge and return with a kick, perform an overhead kick that bounces airborne opponents, or execute a rising kick combo. The REV version of the rising kick combo chains effectively into the Hien Zan summersault, setting up his aerial game.
Kaphwan has three air specials that provide varied utility. Hishou Kyaku is a downward flying stomp kick that counts as a strike-throw on confirmed hit with light and REV versions, while the heavy version kicks repeatedly until landing. Kuusen Kyaku serves as an air-to-air special that hits forward with variations affecting damage output. He also has a two-bar air super with invincibility on startup that can counter enemy offense, and can chain into his ground super, a rushdown combo ending with a powerful summersault.
According to early hands-on impressions, Kaphwan's aerial game reaches a level that his sons do not quite match, though his moveset does require precise timing to maximize damage. Players should exercise caution when launching opponents to avoid whiffing follow-up attacks due to spacing and timing requirements.
Kim Kaphwan is available now in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox Series X|S as part of Season Pass 3. The game is also coming to Nintendo Switch 2 digitally on October 22, 2026, with a physical release planned for January 21, 2027.
