Jet Studio has announced that its upcoming roguelike RPG Kaguraden will arrive on Nintendo Switch 1&2 and PC through Steam in 2027. The announcement includes plans for a playable demo build to be presented at Tokyo Game Show 2026.
Kaguraden is described as a 3D roguelike RPG set in a Japanese-inspired world. The game distinguishes itself with dungeons constructed on three-dimensional hexagonal grids rather than the more common square layouts. Each dungeon presents varying terrain, enemy placements, and item distributions that shift with every adventure, ensuring a fresh experience on subsequent runs.
The narrative follows Kagura, a one-horned boy born between humans and oni. After accidentally breaking the seal on the sacred "Sealed Blade" enshrined in his village, strange occurrences spread across the land and mononoke creatures become more active. Driven by a desire to restore balance, Kagura embarks on journeys through mountain dungeons to recover the lost blade and uncover the truth about his mixed heritage.
Gameplay centers on strategic resource management and tactical decision-making. Every dungeon run begins at Level 1, where players gather weapons, shields, outfits, and talismans before venturing deeper. Success depends on careful navigation of changing environments and the decision to either push further for higher rewards or retreat with accumulated loot. The game features 60 distinct monsters drawn from Japanese folklore, each appearing in three ranks for a total of 180 enemy variations. Six boss encounters await players throughout the various dungeons.
The development team has also secured voice talent for the main characters. Mutsumi Tamura provides the voice for Kagura, while Showtaro Morikubo voices his grandfather Jiya. Kotomi, played by Maria Naganawa, serves as Kagura's younger sister whose involvement deepens the personal stakes of the journey.
Beyond combat mechanics, Kaguraden emphasizes long-term progression through village development. Loot gathered from dungeons can be used to upgrade villagers' homes and facilities, expanding shop inventories and unlocking additional services. As players complete more adventures, the village around Kagura evolves visually and functionally, reflecting the player's progress and choices.
The announcement positions Kaguraden as a standalone entry in the roguelike genre, offering distinctive visual and mechanical elements that differentiate it from similar titles. With a planned release in 2027 and a pre-release demo scheduled for Tokyo Game Show 2026, fans can anticipate a significant addition to the roguelike RPG catalog.
Jet Studio has emphasized that the game will support voiceovers in Japanese alongside subtitles in Japanese and English, catering to diverse audiences. The project represents a continuation of the studio's commitment to innovative game design and cultural storytelling through interactive media.
