Toy Story 4 Director Josh Cooley to Write 99 Nights in the Forest Movie

20th Century Studios has hired Josh Cooley to write the script for the upcoming 99 Nights in the Forest movie, based on the popular Roblox survival-horror game. Cooley directed the Oscar-winning Pixar film Toy Story 4 and earned an Academy Award nomination for Inside Out. He also directed Transformers One.

99 Nights in the Forest is developed by Grandma's Favourite Games and remains one of Roblox's most popular games, with nearly 150,000 concurrent players. The game challenges players to survive for 99 nights in a haunted forest while fighting monsters and rescuing missing children.

20th Century Studios acquired the film rights earlier this year through a reported competitive dealmaking process. The game's developers, Alec Kieft, Matthew Hufton, and Cameron Angland, will serve as executive producers on the film.

This is not 20th Century's first video game adaptation. The studio previously produced the Hitman and Assassin's Creed films. 99 Nights in the Forest also follows other Roblox games into Hollywood development, including Grow a Garden and Steal a Brainrot.
