INTERSCAPE, a new cinematic action title from ROOMTONE Games, emerged as one of the standout indies at Tokyo Game Show 2024, securing a Gold Award in the Selected Indie 80 showcase alongside just seven other games. The achievement is particularly notable given the studio's size: a ten-person development team has crafted what early hands-on experience suggests could be a significant release.

The game draws inspiration from Christopher Nolan's filmography, particularly Inception, Interstellar, and the visual language of Control. The premise places players in the role of Agent K, a protagonist with the ability to dive into the dreams of others. Humanity has become trapped in an inescapable network of dreams after a revolutionary technology malfunctioned, and a mysterious black sphere begins absorbing the collective dreamscape. Each dream manifests as its own distinct world with unique abilities, archetypes, and challenges.

ROOMTONE Games CEO Dongwook Kim explained that INTERSCAPE will feature dramatically different dream sequences, each offering separate perspectives and gameplay approaches. The hands-on preview demonstrated the game's scope through a demo that shifted between an Interstellar-style tesseract environment and a monochromatic 1920s noir setting populated with suited antagonists. The dreamscape's visual presentation prevented the limited palette from feeling static, with environmental chaos intensifying as the mission progressed.

Combat combines hand-to-hand and ranged attacks with environmental interaction. In the demo, the player wielded a large key as a weapon that could also be flung at surfaces to twist and stretch the map, using the environment both offensively and defensively. The traversal system incorporates light parkour and puzzle-solving elements centered on navigation, with movement mechanics comparable to Control's approach to repositioning across alternating planes.

Dialogue demonstrated genuine character chemistry, particularly among the trio of Hana, Agent K, and Void, with writing that incorporated humor. The game has been in development for several years and has generated significant interest at industry events, with Tokyo Game Show providing the brightest spotlight so far.

INTERSCAPE is scheduled for release on PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Game Pass. The title is currently available to wishlist on Steam.
