GTA 6 Vice City Is Twice the Size of GTA 5’s Los Santos, Says Rockstar North
Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson revealed that the Vice City map in Grand Theft Auto 6 is twice the size of GTA 5’s Los Santos, with surrounding built-up areas measuring eleven times larger.
Rockstar Games is preparing for the release of Grand Theft Auto 6, with studio executives currently promoting the game in the media and detailing the sheer scope of its map. Following the multi-generation success of its predecessor, Rockstar North is aiming to deliver a significantly larger world for players to explore.
In interviews discussing what to expect from the open world, Rob Nelson, co-studio head of Rockstar North, spoke about the scale of the upcoming release. Speaking to Davy Jones via Flow Games, Nelson revealed that the new iteration of Vice City alone is twice the size of Los Santos from Grand Theft Auto 5.
Furthermore, Nelson detailed that the built-up areas outside the main city are actually eleven times the size of the previous game's corresponding zones. This expanded scope is designed to incorporate not only rural environments but also several smaller cities scattered throughout the map. Nelson also emphasized that players will encounter plenty of emergent discoveries that are not directly pointed out by map icons, objectives, or blips, rewarding those who take the time to explore.
Alongside these developer details, the game has been showcased through other official channels, including an extended look on Netflix and a 26-minute gameplay video on PlayStation 5 highlighting protagonists Jason and Lucia.
