Dazed Feature Details GTA 6 Dual-Protagonist Swapping

Rockstar describes freely jumping between Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos in Grand Theft Auto 6, including seamless mid-drive handoffs and shared activities like a post-heist jet ski ride.

Rockstar Games has offered new details on how character switching will work in Grand Theft Auto 6, as reported by British youth-culture magazine Dazed in its Autumn 2026 Issue. The feature focuses on the game's two protagonists, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, and explains that players can choose to play as a couple, operate independently in the state of Leonida, or freely jump between the two characters at will.

Dazed's reporting describes a notably fluid system. While Jason is driving on the highway, the player can take control of Lucia in the passenger seat and use the in-game phone. When the situation escalates, the game then allows the player to switch to Jason to swerve through traffic or to Lucia to shoot at pursuers, all without a hard break in the action. After a successful job, the pair can take to a jet ski together, with Dazed describing the two characters snuggling in what it characterizes as a bloody matrimony moment.

The magazine frames GTA 6 as the franchise's first true showcase of on-screen romance, with the story centered on a romantic, crime-driven relationship whose choices carry consequences. Dual protagonists are not new to the series: Grand Theft Auto 5 allowed players to swap between Franklin Clinton, Michael Townley, and Trevor Philips, with the camera pulling back and then refocusing on whichever character the player selected. Dazed's account suggests GTA 6's version will feel more seamless, in part because Jason and Lucia are a couple rather than simply associates.

Rockstar has not officially commented on the wave of leaks referenced in GameSpot's coverage. Grand Theft Auto 6 is currently scheduled to launch on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
