Grand Theft Auto 6 will feature over 170 animal species, significantly expanding on the wildlife seen in Red Dead Redemption 2. The lineup includes 60+ types of birds, over 30 land mammals, manatees, flamingos, pelicans, alligators, and marine life such as sharks, jellyfish and whales.

Several species are brand new to Rockstar's games, though the developer has not revealed which ones. Animals are divided into categories including Discoverable, Rare and Legendary.

Rockstar VP of dynamic art Michael Kane explained the approach to wildlife: "Florida has a diverse animal ecosystem that we wanted to faithfully include across the different biomes in Leonida – urban and rural environs, aquatic life both inland and ocean, and the wetland habitats like the swamps and Everglades."

Each species features realistic detail including iridescence, bioluminescence, translucency and feather types. The team developed new fur and hair systems with human-to-animal interaction, allowing dirt matting and clumping in environmental contexts, getting wet, and color and coat variations.

Grand Theft Auto 6 launches November 19th on Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5.
