GTA 5 Source Code Leak Reveals Massive Liberty City Expansion and Canceled Agent Trevor DLC

A new batch of Rockstar files totaling around 192GB has surfaced online, exposing previously unknown details about Grand Theft Auto 5's canceled single-player content, including a substantially larger Liberty City map and a James Bond-style Agent Trevor

A fresh leak of Rockstar development files is exposing the scope of Grand Theft Auto 5's canceled expansions. The newly surfaced material, comprising roughly 192GB, significantly dwarfs the approximately 4GB of GTA 5 source code that emerged publicly in 2023.

GTA modder TJGM has been analyzing the files and uncovered several major discoveries. The most substantial is evidence of a planned Liberty City expansion that Rockstar ultimately scrapped. By examining shoreline data in the files, TJGM reconstructed an outline of the intended map, which appears considerably larger than the Liberty City featured in GTA 4. The files also contain development zones and shoreline audio data, suggesting development progressed further than previously known.

"The outline of this map is drawn based on where shorelines are," TJGM explained in sharing the discovery. While Liberty City content was already confirmed to exist from the 2023 leak, this new material provides a clearer picture of Rockstar's ambitions for the expansion.

The leak also sheds light on the canceled Agent Trevor DLC. This single-player expansion was designed to cast GTA 5's Trevor in a James Bond-style secret agent role, complete with interior screenshots showing a large mansion apparently intended for missions. The project was later confirmed canceled due to Rockstar's increased focus on GTA Online. The newly leaked files contain mission names, descriptions, and music information for the planned content.

Beyond cancelled expansions, TJGM has posted early dialogue from GTA 5 that never made it into the final game. One example shows an alternate version of a scene from the mission "Friend Request," where Tracey watches a fictional TV show called "Jersey Jews" instead of the Fame or Shame content that ultimately appeared.

The files originate from Rockstar's broader 2022 security breach, when an attacker obtained extensive development data including GTA 5's source code and early GTA 6 material. TJGM claims the newly surfaced files contain low-quality screenshots of the GTA 6 map, though early development material for the next entry was expected given the breach's scope.

GTA 5 became one of Rockstar's most heavily supported games, but post-launch focus shifted primarily toward GTA Online rather than the substantial single-player DLC many fans anticipated. With GTA 6's release date approaching, these discoveries offer a window into what could have been for the aging title.
