Godot Engine Details Technical Sessions and Roadmaps for GodotCon Boston 2026

The Godot Foundation has detailed official schedule highlights for GodotCon Boston 2026, showcasing advancements in rendering, mobile optimization, and PC-free VR game development.

The Godot Foundation has shared schedule highlights for the second annual North American GodotCon, taking place in Boston. The upcoming conference will feature a variety of official updates, technical deep dives, and roadmaps covering rendering, mobile optimization, and virtual reality workflows.

Rendering and Android Platform Roadmaps

Among the core engine updates is the Godot Rendering Team Update, led by Clay John. This session will look back at the technical challenges overcome by the rendering team over the past two years, address current limitations, and outline future high-end features and long-term goals for Godot's renderer.

Fredia L Huya-Kouadio will present What’s New in Android, showcasing platform features and growth since 2025. The presentation will focus on the progression of the Godot Android editor and offer a first look at its 2026 development roadmap.

Developing VR Games Entirely in VR

For developers interested in virtual reality, XR team members David Snopek and Logan Lang will present a session demonstrating how to build a game directly inside standalone VR headsets without requiring a PC. The talk will highlight the capabilities of the Godot editor running on platforms like the Meta Quest 2 and 3, Pico 4, and Samsung Galaxy XR.

The speakers will detail the creation of Expedition to Blobotopia, a VR game they built in one week using Meta Quest 3 headsets for Godot Wild Jam #81. Additionally, they will showcase GABE, a newly released tool that allows developers to run full Android Gradle builds directly on a standalone headset, alongside guides for publishing to the Meta Horizon Store and Google Play Store.

Cross-Platform XR and Optimization

In a secondary XR-focused talk, Fredia L Huya-Kouadio and David Snopek will guide developers through building cross-platform XR projects that support Android XR, Meta Horizon OS, Pico OS, and visionOS. The session will also cover how to port traditional "flat" 3D games into immersive or volumetric XR formats.

Performance on lower-end devices will also be a major focus. Clay John, Pablo Selener, and David Snopek will host a session on optimizing Godot for low-spec targets like mobile and standalone VR. This session will highlight upstream optimization contributions from W4 Games—originally funded by commercial engagements—that improve engine-wide performance for all developers, as well as optimization techniques that can be applied to individual projects without modifying Godot's source code.
