Gears of War: E-Day Review Embargo Lifts October 1, Five Days Before Launch

The review embargo for Gears of War: E-Day ends Thursday, October 1, 2026, with reviews and first impressions publishing at 6 AM PT/9 AM ET/2 PM BST. The timing puts reviews live one hour before early access begins for players who purchased the Premium Edition.

E-Day officially releases October 6, making the five-day review window a standard lead time for major releases. This staggered rollout gives prospective players time to read critical verdicts before early access opens and the full launch follows shortly after.

The release comes as Xbox continues focusing on major franchise titles. The Coalition, developer of E-Day, was among studios affected by recent layoffs within Xbox. Despite the turbulent year, expectations remain high for the prequel given the franchise's historical critical performance. The original Gears of War scored 94 on Metacritic, with the first three entries all landing above 91. More recent entries Gears of War 4 and 5 each scored 84, while Gears of War: Reloaded, the most recent release, hit 79.

E-Day revisits the early days of the Gears of War series, marking a narrative return many fans have anticipated. The review embargo timing allows players interested in the game to make informed purchasing decisions immediately after critical consensus emerges.
