Game of Thrones: Aegon's Conquest movie set for June 2029 with A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms director
HBO has confirmed a release date for the upcoming Game of Thrones film adaptation of Aegon's Conquest, directed by Owen Harris of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
HBO has set a June 1, 2029 release date for Game of Thrones: Aegon's Conquest, the studio announced via Deadline. Director Owen Harris, who helmed three episodes of the prequel series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, will lead the film. Andor writer Bea Willimon is scripting the movie.
The film will chronicle Aegon I Targaryen's conquest of Westeros, the legendary campaign that unified the continent's warring kingdoms. Aegon achieved this feat alongside his sister-wives Rhaenys and Visenya and three dragons, according to Targaryen history. House of the Dragon previously revealed that Aegon's motivation stemmed from a prophetic vision of the Long Night and the belief that only a Targaryen on the Iron Throne could prevent catastrophe.
The announcement arrives as HBO continues expanding its Game of Thrones universe. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 is scheduled for the first half of 2027. Separately, showrunner Ira Parker indicated interest in extending the Dunk and Egg adaptation beyond three seasons, pending George R.R. Martin's completion of book four in the novellas series. Parker suggested seasons four and five could explore Egg's later years as prince, set in locations like Summer Hall and King's Landing.
