Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4: Override Brings Gaming Crossovers and Release Details

Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4: Override launches on August 20, focusing entirely on video game collaborations featuring Sonic, Tetris, Pac-Man, and more.

Epic Games' long-running battle royale title is gearing up for its next major update. Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4, titled Override, features a central theme entirely focused on video game collaborations. While past updates have brought individual characters from franchises like Resident Evil, Halo, and The Witcher into the game, Override marks the first time an entire season centers around gaming crossovers.

The upcoming season is scheduled to release on Thursday, August 20th. According to estimated windows based on previous launches, the update is expected to go live sometime in the morning UK time, though exact timing can vary from very early morning to closer to midday. Players can expect various map changes reflecting the gaming theme, such as Tetris blocks, Pac-Man Ghost Gang clouds, and Sonic's Green Hill Zone complete with loop-de-loops and the spin dash mechanic.

As for playable skins and characters, the season introduces a wide array of new and returning faces. While Sonic and an assortment of original Fortnite creations make up the Battle Pass lineup, other prominent gaming icons shown in promotional material—including Mega Man, Persona 5's Joker, Kingdom Hearts's Sora, Spyro, and Crash Bandicoot—will be available separately. The narrative setup for the new season follows the weekend's Unstable live event, which rebooted the in-game universe and dropped a cartridge onto the map.
