Complete Fortnitemares Week 1 Challenge: Damage Opponents With the Bonerattler SMG in Fortnite

Fortnite's 2026 Fortnitemares update introduced the Bonerattler SMG, a new rapid-fire weapon tied to the event's opening challenges. Players need to deal damage with this gun to progress through Week 1 quests.

Finding the Bonerattler is straightforward. The weapon spawns as common ground loot across the map, making it one of the easier guns to locate in matches. You can pick one up from the floor after landing, find it inside chests scattered around the map, or loot it from defeated players. Most matches should yield at least one copy.

To complete the damage challenge, equip the Bonerattler SMG and shoot either enemy players or AI soldiers. You need 500 cumulative damage total. If you struggle against real opponents, AI enemies count just the same toward the quest completion.

To finish the challenge faster, search for upgraded rarity versions of the weapon or use vending machines to increase the gun's rarity tier. Higher rarity versions deal more damage per shot, letting you reach 500 damage more quickly.

Completing this weekly quest rewards 15,000 XP and contributes to the broader Fortnitemares quest track. Finishing multiple quests throughout the season unlocks greater rewards as you progress.
